Retiree Mary Wayne and her two sons lost everything when their Alexandria mobile home was destroyed in a fire on November 17th. Mary spent most of her career at C&P Telephone/Bell Atlantic/Verizon as an Operator and Service Representative in Northern Virginia, where she was an active CWA Local 2222 member. Mary became a member of Local 2108 when she accepted a promotion to Com Rep in Beltsville, where she worked until her retirement in 2002.
One of Mary's sons sustained first, second and third degree burns in the fire, and was transported by Medivac to Washington Medical Center. He has since been released from the hospital, but is still receiving treatment for his burns. Both of Mary's sons work for Fairfax County, cleaning apartment complexes, and neither has health insurance or sick pay.
Mary and her sons are searching diligently for affordable housing to rent near her sons' jobs in Fairfax County which will accept her 18 year-old cat, who received burns in the fire, also.
HOW CAN YOU HELP???
Once they find a rental property, Mary is going to need help with furniture and household items, as her small insurance policy was insufficient to replace those for a family of three.
Mary and her sons also have an immediate need for winter clothes. Do you have clean, gently-worn winter clothing that you no longer wear in the following sizes?
Mary ---- size small clothes, size 8.5 or 9 shoes (a friend already gave her a coat)
Sons ----- Both need winter coats and shirts, size Large, and Pants, sizes 36x32 and 36x34, size 9.5 and 10 shoes/boots
Needless to say, cash donations would help Mary and her sons greatly.
CAN YOU HELP?
Please call Local 2108 on 301.595.2108 or Local 2222 on 703.256.2200 to advise what you can donate and to arrange delivery/pick up of your items. Together, hopefully we can help our retiree and her family get back on their feet!
THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE!!!!
