Below is an email that has information, and clarification, for EAs that are working from home.
Since implementing Work at Home, some Engineering Assistants that volunteered have been given incorrect information by Local management. Some were advised if a Company vehicle is needed to do a site visit, they are to travel unpaid to their reporting location, get a Company vehicle to complete the site visit, then return home unpaid and make up the lost time at the end of the day. When that was corrected, some were told volunteers needed (meaning are required) to use their personal vehicles for all site visits. The Company tells me that too has been clarified.
The Company cannot require employees to use their personal vehicles.
For the EAs that have volunteered for WAH, site visits may be done using their personal vehicles if they are willing. Mileage will be paid; parking and tolls, if applicable, reimburse; and up to $250 reimbursed in the event of a motor vehicle accident (Article 29). I have requested that management be required to strongly encourage anyone willing to use his/her personal vehicle to first contact their car insurance provider to check their coverage for this type of vehicle use. I encourage the Locals to stress this to members also. EAs that are not willing to use their personal vehicles are to let their supervisor know and the supervisor will assign someone else to do site visits.
For the EAs still working from their offices, each available vehicle will be assigned to only one EA. Those EAs with an assigned vehicle will do all site visits. There will be no vehicle sharing.
