SAFETY & HEALTH COMMITTEE
In the last six months, the number of safety incidents and near misses in our Local has steadily increased. This has forced our hand as a Local into more decisive action. The Safety and Health Committee has typically been more of a passive committee, working in the background, laying necessary groundwork, and acting when needed. It has become increasingly obvious that this will no longer suit our members’ needs, and as such needs to become a more aggressive committee. To this end, we are asking for any volunteers for the Safety and Health committee to please contact the Hall (701-256-2200) and sign up.
Ideally, we would like to have at least one point of contact for every location in our Local. This would be so that we have eyes and ears everywhere a member is so we can identify, and have our companies correct, any unsafe conditions as soon as possible. Our employers may be willing to put us in harms way, but we are not willing to injure ourselves or get sick because of them.
All of the bargaining units are asked to participate, as unsafe and unsanitary conditions can be present in any work environment. Your level of participation is entirely up to you, whether you just want to be the eyes and ears or take a more active role. Typically, all that would be asked of you is an occasional conference call and reporting any unsafe conditions. The most that may be asked, if you want that level of participation, would be visits to a location close by to check out and report back any suspected hazardous conditions.
Please consider joining this committee and have a safe day. Thank you
